Harvesting

Here’s a Simple Practice to Celebrate Life

Death is an invitation to keep your heart open

I want to share a straightforward yet powerful practice I’ve been using for years, which I call “Harvesting.” It’s often done with another (or others) after a trip, a project, or a special event.

Here’s how it works: I ask everyone involved to think back on the experience and share their “harvests.” These can be anything—insights gained, moments of gratitude, lessons learned, or even challenges faced. It’s about recognizing what we’ll carry forward, whether it’s something to further ponder, celebrate, or perhaps something that needs healing.

This practice isn’t just about reflection; it’s about integration. By taking the time to consider what these experiences mean to us, we’re able to truly embody them. If we need closure, evaluation, or a fresh start, discussing our harvests can lead us seamlessly into those next steps.

It’s a wonderful tool for all ages. Children, especially, can offer surprising and insightful contributions to these discussions. Reflecting on endings is particularly impactful. What did we gather from that past relationship, that completed project, or that chapter in our lives that has now closed?

Think of it as a mini life-review. Taking these snippets of life and really delving into them, savoring them, is how we show our deepest appreciation for our experiences.

I encourage you to try harvesting some recent events in your life. Share them with a friend, jot them down in your journal, or express them through an art project.

Why do we want to be more embodiment? Because that’s where divine intelligence lives. Consciousness is in every cell of our being and it’s waiting to be enlivened.

Her rich and varied experiences—from three decades of ecovillage living and the practice of sustainable agriculture to her devotional Tantric path—prime her for sharing the teachings of the life/death/life mysteries.
