Beyond Conscious Dying: 9 Essential Principles for Embracing End-of-Life

Village-Based Death & Dying — Let’s Become that Village

I was fortunate to learn about dying within the context of a village. I spent 20+ years as a co-creator and resident of a rural ecovillage in Southern Appalachia, where in addition to learning about sustainable and reverential ways to engage with life, I participated in collective approaches to death-care.

Over the course of two years, from 2016 to 2018, the close-knit village of 125 people experienced the decline and death of six members ranging in ages from 2 to 98. These deaths, and the generous people who experienced them, offered an incredible opportunity to reweave a more holistic approach to end-of-life than the ones generally offered to us by culture. The outcome of stewarding those deaths, together as a community, including after-death care, home funerals, and home burials, was life changing and heart opening experiences for all involved.

Death is an invitation to keep your heart open

My work in death education emerged from this experience as well as my life-long quest to find meaning and truth in existence. As a result of these experiences, I love helping people overcome the fear of death and be both internally and externally prepared for the small deaths in their lives as well as the eventual end of their physical incarnation.

My upcoming course is an opportunity to be in a VILLAGE for 13 weeks.

In this context, village is a metaphor for the collaborative and inclusive systems that help us create supportive, coherent, and integrated ways to live and to die.

Our time together each week offers a tremendous deepening, as one week builds on the next and as we express our vulnerability, curiosity, wisdom, and shared experiences. This course is life changing on so many levels. Experiencing a DEATH LITERATE and close-knit community is a huge part of that!

If you feel drawn to join us, the Immersion Course stars next week on 9/17 and runs until December. I have one final offer for you (good until tomorrow, Friday, 9/13, at midnight. If you sign up with this link, you’ll receive a one-on-one session with me that can be scheduled during this journey, when you most need it).

If you want to talk about death, to learn how preparing for death makes you more alive, and you want to do that in community…..

And remember:

As death becomes sacred, all aspects of life are seen as sacred. And this paves the way for us to fall in love with the vast miracle of existence.

Lee Warren is a death and tantra educator, somatic guide, writer, mystic, and community builder.  Lee’s work delves into the intimate relationship between our physical existence and the mysteries of life and death. She teaches how embracing the certainty of our mortality can transform fear into profound gratitude and ecstatic embodiment.

Why do we want to be more embodiment? Because that’s where divine intelligence lives. Consciousness is in every cell of our being and it’s waiting to be enlivened.

Her rich and varied experiences—from three decades of ecovillage living and the practice of sustainable agriculture to her devotional Tantric path—prime her for sharing the teachings of the life/death/life mysteries.
